Well I've drawn me a line, a line to cross over
Well I've done the deed, and I've fought my mind
I've been hearing cryin', out of window, broken my own rules
Kiss me as I fly
Cliffs and Sea. Cliffs and Sea
My burden of choice, waits for me
It'll make me stronger, it'll set me free
With the blue, blue yearning of the Cliffs and Sea
Well I've borrowed my fare, whispered to my little baby
Sayin' goodbye, I'm leavin' him behind
Please dont judge me, a mother I can't be
I can't explain now. Gotta save my life
Cliffs and Sea. Cliffs and Sea
My burden of choice, waits for me
It'll make me stronger, it'll set me free
With the blue, blue yearning of the Cliffs and Sea
Well my dearest Sun, my time's near over
Let the magpies sing, and the lavender lie
As I draw me a line, a line to cross over
With all the cliffs and the sea, I bid you Goodnight
Cliffs and Sea. Cliffs and Sea.
My burden of choice, waits for me
It'll make me stronger, it'll set me free
With the blue, blue yearning of the Cliffs and Sea

Story behind the Song
Australian artist Joy Hester was the only female member of the Angry penguins –
Melbourne's radical art collective of the war years.
In 1938, Joy met and subsequently married artist Albert Tucker, and both began
to figure prominently in the art world.
In 1947 however, while Tucker was away fighting in Japan, her life changed
dramatically. Firstly, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's disease (a terminal illness in those days).
Joy then made the decision to abandon her marriage and her two
year old son Sweeny, leaving him behind in Melbourne with her dear friend
Sunday Reed.
A short time later she wrote in a letter to Sunday:
"Not even having money for a little bit of paint can be depressing, but we
have been looking long and hard at the ocean and i am quite drugged with Cliffs and Sea."
